Using My Library

The process of breaking a large media file (audio, video, etc.) into smaller pieces and transferring it, piece by piece, so it can be viewed immediately rather than waiting for the whole file to be downloaded. (See Streaming Media Basics.)

Menu of alternate commands; available when you click the alternate mouse button while using an application. In the majority of cases this is the right button, but may be swapped through your computer controls. The menus are usually context specific (dependent on cursor location).

Using My Library

My Library helps you catalogue and organize audio, video and other media, such as links to streaming media on the Web, and audio and video files stored on your hard drive. Use My Library to sort, search, play, and organize all your media collection.

You can add the following media to My Library:

Note: RealOne Music clips (identified by the

icon next to their name) are grouped in a special category of My Library. Access your RealOne Music clips by selecting the RealOne Music group (available after you install RealOne MusicPass) in the Clip Organizer.

When you import media to My Library, you are creating a shortcut called a "clip." Clips contain the location of the media files or Web links they are associated with as well as information about the media content (see Clip Info for details). As you organize these clips only the clips are moved or copied, the media files are not moved. Likewise, when you delete a clip from My Library, you only delete the clip and the clip info; the associated media file on your hard disk is not affected, unless you select it to be removed.

Clips are listed based on how and when they were added to My Library, and if they have been played. Adjust the list with the following criteria.

Note: To change the Play Status of a clip, select the clip(s) then select Change Play Status from the right-click menu.

Organizing Clips as Playlists

A playlist is nothing more than a list of clips to be played. You can think of a playlist as a virtual album, mixed the way you want it. Playlists are saved in My Library in their own group and you can create, edit, and delete them at any time. You can also create AutoPlaylists that RealOne Player generates you, and that you can remix at the click of your mouse.

Playing Your Clips

Although the clips you create are saved and organized on your computer, the media files they point to can be on your computer, on a LAN (network), or on the Internet. When you play a clip, you are instructing the RealOne Player to play the media file that the clip points to. Because of this, playback will be limited by file availability and/or your Internet connection. In addition, there are several RealOne Player features that can modify your playback.
