Preferences: Connection: Proxy

A proxy is a server that acts as an intermediary between a company’s protected LAN (local area network) and the Internet. The proxy server ensures that all data transmission between the Internet and a user on the LAN is authorized.

If you are behind a firewall and do not know the host name or port number of your proxy server, ask your firewall administrator. For information on proxy servers and the RealOne Player, see:http://service.real.com/firewall/.

Warning: Since these settings are network specific there are no meaningful defaults for the manual settings. Consult your network administrator for the appropriate entries.

OPTION

DESCRIPTION

Media Browser Proxy Settings

This setting will only affect your Media Browser, not streaming content.

Change Settings... Opens the Connections preferences of your Internet Browser. Changes that you make here to the browser preferences are saved and stay in effect after closing RealOne Player.

Streaming Settings

Displays the current Proxy settings.

Change Settings... Opens Streaming Proxy Settings dialog. Select a PNA, RTSP, or HTTP proxy. For each applicable proxy, enter the appropriate domain name or IP address of the server, and port that the RealOne Player should use to communicate with the proxy server.

PNA and RTSP Proxies

No Proxy: (Default) Do not use a PNA or RTSP proxy.

Automatic Configuration: Use the settings in Automatic Configuration set below.

Use Proxies: Enter the correct Proxy address and Port number for the appropriate protocol.

HTTP Proxy

Use system Internet Connections: (Default) If you have previously set your Web browser to use a proxy, this setting will read those existing settings and use them for RealOne Player.

No proxy: Do not use an HTTP proxy for streaming, even if one is set in your Web browse.

Automatic Configuration: Use the settings in Automatic Configuration set below.

Use proxy: Enter the correct Proxy address and Port number.

Automatic Configuration

Automatically detect settings: Some networks broadcast proxy settings so that properly configured programs can automatically set and adjust their settings based on the current conditions of the LAN to which they are connected. If your network does not use this broadcast, and you select this setting, you may not be able to properly play back content.

Use script URL: URL containing proxy script. This location can be selected for auto-configuration of PNA-RTSP and/or HTTP proxies.

Do not use proxy...

When you select a proxy, you can also specify a list of local hosts (domain names or IP Addresses) which you do not need to communicate through the proxy server. Enter these hosts in this field. This field is only available if you have enabled one of the "Streaming Settings" proxies above.

Your system administrator can provide you with this information, if appropriate.
